How should I deal with Intimation Notice 245?

If you have reason to believe that you do not have any outstanding balance, and you have cleared all your tax liability in the previous years, you must find out who is your Assessing Officer and approach him within 30 days of the receipt of the Intimation Notice 245. You can find your AO from the government I-T website - www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in.  You must carry all your relevant documents, such as ITR Form, ITR-V, Tax calculations, Income proofs, Tax saving investments done, Form 26AS, etc. If the AO is convinced with the proofs, he can reverse the decision to adjust the refund, or reduce the value of outstanding. Else, the refund amount will be adjusted as before.
