How to Register on Income Tax Website

Prerequisite to Register on Income Tax Website

  Prior to registering on the Income Tax Portal, one must ensure they have following details:
  1. PAN Number
  2. Mobile Number
  3. Current Address
  4. Email Address
  Steps to Register on Income Tax Website

  Step 1: 
  1. Visit the income tax website www.incometaxindiaefing.gov.in
  2. On the homepage, click on ‘Register Yourself’ tab on the right hand side of the page


 Step 2: 
  1. Select the User Type from the Drop down list. Eg: individual, HUF etc


Step 3: 
  1. Enter your Basic Details and press the “Continue” Button.
  2. Name and Birth Date should be as per PAN


Step 4: 
  1. On the next page, enter (i) Password Details, (ii) Contact Details and (iii) Current Address.
  2. Then tick check box to Subscribe to E-mail and Alerts from Income Tax.
  3. Then enter the Captcha code and press the Submit button.




Step 5: 
  1. On submitting the duly filled form, a six digit One Time Password (OTP) is sent to your mobile number and the email ID provided. Enter this OTP correctly to successfully verify the details. Please note that in case of non- residents the OTP is only sent on the registered email address.
  2. The OTP will expire after 24 hours from the actual time of receipt. In case one fails to complete the registration process within the given 24 hours, the entire registration must be initiated again.
  3. Once the OTP is confirm you can login to your Income Tax account. You Login User ID is your PAN Number and Password is what provided by you in Step 4 (i)
