What are the steps for paying the Self Assessment tax online?
It has become very convenient to pay
SAT now, due to online facility of netbanking. You can follow the steps below:
- Log
in to the income tax website.
- After
signing in, you can click on the e-Pay taxes option.
- You
will be redirected to the National Securities Depository Ltd. Site.
- Click
on the ‘Challan no./ITNS 280’ tab, and then on the ‘(0021) Income tax
(other than companies)’ option.
- Fill
your details: PAN card, name and contact details.
- Select
your relevant assessment year.
- Choose the ‘type of payment’, i.e. Self Assessment Tax (300).
- Choose
the bank and pay.
- Enter
the ‘tax payable amount’.
- You
will be redirected to the bank’s netbanking page for making the payment.
- Verify
your details on the Challan, like CIN, name of the bank, and payment
details.
- You
should save a copy of it, for future reference.
- Your
SAT payment will be included in your form 26AS on the I-T website. If it
doesn’t reflect, fill in the challan details while filing the ITR.
